Atenas

Atenas is a town in Costa Rica and the capital of Atenas Canton in Alajuela Province. The town is surrounded by several coffee plantations.

National Geographic has claimed Atenas to have "the best climate in the world".

Atenas has a reported population of around 6,000 in town and another 18,000 to 20,000 living in the surrounding areas. It is located in the province of Alajuela on the western edge of the Central Valley at approximately 700 - 800 meters altitude. (or 2,400 ft.) It is known for its exceptional climate throughout the world!

Atenas is the center of a prosperous agricultural area which hosts a weekly farmer's market filled with fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs. At the center of town you will find an immaculate white church and a picturesque park lined with palm trees.

This small quaint village is surrounded by scenic mountains. Some of the amenities to be found in Atenas include a community health center, pharmacies, doctors, dentists, a tennis court, a fitness center, swimming pools, parks, banks, shops, bed and breakfasts and restaurants.

Atenas is located 20 km.(12 miles) from the International Airport Juan Santamaria, 35 km.(21 miles) from the Costa Rican capitol, San Jose and 50 km.(30 miles) from the gorgeous Central Pacific beaches.
