At attention

The position of attention is a military posture which involves the following:

  • Tucking arms to the side, with the thumbs running along the seams of your pants
  • Head and eyes straight forward
  • Keeping heels together.

This position is common in most military organizations throughout the world. It is also used by paramilitary organizations, and others such as Scouts, Cadet Programs, or Police Units.

  • In the U.S. military, the feet are kept at a 45 degree angle.
