Asymbolus rubiginosus is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae found only off West Australia, at depths of between 25 and 540 m. Its length is up to 39 cm.

Asymbolus rubiginosus has a short and slender caudal peduncle. The head and trunk are broad, and the anal fin base is long.

Coloration is pale brownish body with orange brown spots, and an indistinct brownish blotch beneath the eye. Between each dark saddle on the dorsal midline is a cluster of spots.

Reproduction is oviparous.
