Asuka is the name of the land where old Japanese capitals or palaces of the 6-7th century, Asuka (飛鳥 Asuka?) existed (the village of Asuka, Nara). The land gave the Asuka period its name.
Also derived from this city is the fairly common Japanese given name Asuka, which can be male or female.
