[edit] question

Do we normally add in two templates on pages, one for each parent, or just the template for the senior parent in terms of royal status? FearÉIREANN\(caint) 19:15, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pathoschild's successful RfA

Thanks a lot for your support on my request for adminship; it passed with 23/0/0 (plus one duplicate support and an oppose from a vandal IP). I'll do my best to exceed everyone's expectations. // Pathoschild 08:59, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for reverting the Greek royals. I don't think I had the energy or patience to do it again, after fixing it last night. Thanks again. :) Prsgoddess187 17:07, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your advise

Thank you, I didn't heard it before!Astorknlam

You might want to keep an eye on Constantine II of Greece. Adam Carr for some reason is determined to rewrite it to push his POV without any pretence at NPOV. I am a bit disappointed in Adam. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 00:07, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

I was wondering if anyone else saw that. Also check out Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece.Prsgoddess187 00:15, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Absolutely astonishing!!! That reality is outrageous. The page is now at an unreadable name lost in multiple redirects. I am going to undo it. It is disgraceful. He has been around for ages. He knows that is not how pages are renamed. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 00:23, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Your comments would be welcome at Prime Minister. One user, without even bothering to go through the proper procedures, wants to rename the article Prime minister and keeps moving it to push that version!!! FearÉIREANN\(caint) 23:16, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your input on AfD is requested

I have entered an AfD for the article Chair force. I feel this is an inherently POV article that is degrading to the United States Air Force and besides, there is already an entry in military slang for this topic. I would appreciate it if you would review the article, other comments and if you are so disposed, please add your opinion/comment. Thanks. --rogerd 19:34, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:HMAS Sydney.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:HMAS Sydney.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairusein|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Pak21 11:19, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Post-nominal Titles for British Honorary Designations In Lead Sections

Hello Astrotrain, thank you for commenting in the Manual of Style on the post-nominals. (I'd actually wondered if the lack of them in British royalty articles was intentional or not!) I've been having a bit of trouble with discussing this (and other issues) with key contributors to O'Connor, or the idea that a policy is desirable. If there is a group of interested people or discussion of precedent which could be moved in or pointed to...I'd appreciate it... Metaeducation 22:57, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

I can't see any discussion on the issue in relation to British Royality. I tidied many of the British Royality articles recently and removed honours in the lead sentence to a Titles and Honours section at the bottom of the page, however looking back, I see that has been reveresed! I am all for removing the post nominals, as they mess up the articles and are confusing to first time readers. Astrotrain 23:07, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
I also do not like them in lead sentences—but I can't speak for British people, and it sounds like there is consensus that "British" topics use British spellings...so maybe this is another one of those kinds of issues. I'd just like it if the Manual of Style had something to say about it. If it says there's no convention and we don't need one...well, I guess whoever has the most willpower in reverting wins! If you know others who'd be interested then invite them along to discuss...thanks! Metaeducation 23:19, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

I agree. You make a very good point. I was in two minds about it. I was interested to hear your observations on it and I think your argument makes perfect sense. I suppose though we should try to get a larger debate going. It could be rather controversial if implemented without a full discussion. But I fully agree with the idea. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 00:11, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Templates for deletion

Hi mate,

You may remember the war on styles that was waged some time ago and the eventual compromise reached which meant that styles (Holiness, Majesty, Royal Highness, etc) are no longer used at the start in royalty articles. A series of templates were created to enable users to warn other users who attempt to reinsert styles into articles that that is no longer WP policy. However a user who is trying to get a whole series of templates deleted has nominated them on the WP:TFD for deletion. I am thoroughly fed up having to defend necessary templates from the minority of deletion police on WP who seem to act as a group: one nominates, then the rest all vote to agree with them. All help to defend the necessary templates in the styles series gratefully received. Thanks. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 19:42, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Maud of Wales

Morning,

I was wondering if I could get your support on moving Maud of the United Kingdom back to Maud of Wales. Since she married Prince Carl of Denmark prior to her father's accession, she should be at her proper per-marital name.

Thanks, Prsgoddess187 13:02, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

I remember it being Maud of Wales, and that is where I think it should be, as least as far as we name otber consorts. Prsgoddess187 13:34, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

User:Csernica is mounting a campaign to argue that image:Kingcrown.jpg is a copyright violation. I am fed up dealing with individuals with chronic misunderstanding of the legal rules on crown copyright. At this stage I should keep a cut-and-paste to post in the explanations but I just can't be bothered anymore. As this may be the start of a campaign against cc images, your observations would be welcome. Comments can be added to Image talk:Kingcrown.jpg. This deletionism nonsense is getting a right pain in the backside at this stage. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 22:55, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Scotland and the Sewel convention

You amended the Politics section of the Scotland article re the need for Sewel motions. My earlier edit had indicated that Private Members' Bills which relate to devolved matters require Sewel motions. Your subsequent edit (in the summary) indicated that Westminster Bills do not require such motions, and stated that the Sunday Working (Scotland) Act 2003 had not required one. We were, in fact, both partly correct and partly in error. Private Members' Bills at Westminster which relate to devolved matters invoke the Sewel convention as much as Government bills do. The problem with the text of the article, which I had not picked up, is that the Sunday Working (Scotland) Act 2003 does not relate to devolved matters - it amends the Employment Rights Act 1996, the subject-matter of which is squarely reserved by the Scotland Act 1998. I have now removed the reference to the 2003 Act and reinstated the reference to Sewel motions.--George Burgess 22:25, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Time for you to put your foot down somewhat here, I think. Some person is insisting on including assertions based on Kitty Kelley, on the basis that they are published and therefore bona fide sources. Not necessarily so, of course. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Linlithgow Burgh sign.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Linlithgow Burgh sign.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. --cohesiontalk 09:27, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flags in Military Templates

Crown copyright is not at all the same thing as public domain. Crown copyright is just as restrictive as normal copyright in Australia, it just has a shorter duration. There is further complication by the fact official flags of Australia are also controled by law, there are rules about how the flags can be used. --Martyman-(talk) 10:14, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Diana

Hey,

A user just changed the opening of Diana, Princess of Wales to refer to her as Diana Spencer. To be honest I have been thinking that that needs to be done for a long time. It is crazy that Diana, as a (former) royal consort, is still at her death name when others who died subsequently have long since reverted to the standard royal biographical format of maiden name. It isn't as if we can even use the most common name rule to justify it given that far more people would use the non-existent Princess Diana than D,P o W. In addition, D, P o W lapsed as a style on her death. I'd be interested to hear your views before formally proposing it. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 20:35, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ascension Island postal history

Your deletion of my carefully-written material on Ascension Island's postal history, concealed within a bunch of other edits, is bordering on vandalism. Don't do it again. Stan 18:30, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

As you can see from Category:Philately by country, there are lots of such articles already, but normally I don't create them for short writeups like this one. BTW, one of the things that happens when you delete text with image references in them is that the images can become orphaned, and with the current strict policies on fair use, all orphaned fair-use images are deleted, usually within a few days. So you very nearly caused a number of image deletions too. Stan 23:27, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Military flags

The flags of the Australian military are copyrighted by the Australian government, someone can make a copy of them and label it with whatever licence they want- but a derivative work of a copyrighted item does not negate the original copyright. Because the government owns the copyright these flags must be used in accordance with Wikipedia’s fair use policy, and as such should not appear in templates. See point 9 of the Wikipedia fair use policy; Fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are often enough not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages.--nixie 23:08, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Very good work on the British Indian Ocean Territory and Akrotiri and Dhekelia articles. They look very sharp and informative! - Thanks, Hoshie | North Carolina flag 09:11, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

As for your question on what continent BIOT is attached to, I came to pick Africa for two reasons. As you know, the nations that BIOT was created are the Seychelles and Mauritius. These nations are generaly thought of as being African. According to this article in Der Spiegel, the folks who were expelled from the Chagos (DG, Three Brothers, Eagle Islands, Peros Banhos, Salomon, etc.) came from Africa:

The Chagossians originally came from Mozambique, Madagascar, Senegal and southern India. The descendants of slaves, they worked on the coconut plantations and made a living trading in copra, a lamp oil derived from coconuts and a sought-after commodity on Mauritius and in the Seychelles. Indeed, the Chagos Islands were also known as the "Oil Islands."

The FCO and CIA Factbook seem to be unclear on this matter. - Thanks, Hoshie | North Carolina flag 01:38, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Showing the figures of Mohammed is disturbing muslims. And it is a insult to Islam. In Islam making and also looking the figures of Mohammed is forbidden. That is raping the holy things of Islam. And it is not about "freedom".--Erdemsenol 00:43, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

In most of the european countries we have something called freedom of speech. It took us some centuries to get rid of the censorship power of the religion (in this case the Christian religion) and gain freedom of speech. Now everyone is free to say and write what he thinks, and satire is a form of free speech. We have some problems here in Italy with people trying to censor satire, but it is one of the sign of the democracy and freedom of a state. I shouldn't answer you in the first place because you are probably a troll, but I think you should respect at least the right of other people to say what they want. Then if you don't agree, you shouldn't boycott or kill or use violence to impose your point of view. This applies to what is happening now in the muslim community, but the Americans did the same thing when France and Germany didn't want to invade Iraq; they tried to boycott them and impose their point of view with violence. Pay attention to what you are doing, you are acting very similar to the same people you commend. --giandrea 02:23, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gibraltar

Relax man, no need to menace me. We are just having a discussion over a certain topic. I didnt revert without explaining why or making a new point. Cheers! --Ismael76 15:55, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ryanair dispatches documentary

Hi, I had removed the seat 1a claim mainly because I thought it took up a disproportionate amount of space (almost half the paragraph on the documentary) for an assertion that was patent rubbish (although of course the tutor did say it which they shouldn't have). I have now summarised. Hope that is OK. Also put a comment on Ryanair talk page. -- Blorg 21:03, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {{Infobox UKkingstyles}}

Astrotrain, the image Image:Kingcrown.jpg has had its copyright status disputed; see Image talk:Kingcrown.jpg. The image is clearly acceptable under fair use for the articles it appears in, but really shouldn't be used in a template. Can you think of a different image that might be used? Thanks. Chick Bowen 22:38, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

I've now replaced the image with another image, a PD engraving of the same crown that was there before. Is this an acceptable short-term solution until we can come up with a free color picture that would work? Thanks. Chick Bowen 23:06, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

OK- agree with the new replacement Astrotrain

[edit] British overseas territories

I hope you don't mind my moving Overseas territory of the United Kingdom to British overseas territories, as I noticed that you recently had moved this article from British overseas territory. My reasoning is that they are now officially called "British overseas territories" per the British Overseas Territories Act 2002, plus it sounds good, is quicker to type and read, and this wording wins the Googlefight handily. There were dozens of synonyms, some of them in wide use because of history, some others useless; I did my best to sort them and fix a few pages with redundant links to the same concept under different names in "see also" sections. So if you feel the urge to revert, check my history and talk to me first. -- JFG 05:15, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Apologies, I didn't see your note. I've deleted the ifd for the mean time. I'd like to know though, what is not right with the SVG of the Gib. flag? Greentubing 09:49, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Replaced with SVG Astrotrain

[edit] Template:Military of Pakistan

Hi, just looking through the Military of Pakistan article and it's daughter articles, I noticed there were two templates in use of which you created one in August 2005. A new larger template is now being used which includes the links to the daughter articles. Would you be bothered if I ask for your template to be deleted? Green Giant 05:17, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
