asthma friendly® is a trademarked owned by Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), Inc., and used in a product certification program administered in the United States by the nonprofit Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The asthma friendly® Certification Program involves writing and publishing peer-reviewed standards for a variety of products, and testing those products to determine if they meet the standards and qualify for certification.

People with asthma and allergies come face-to-face with a variety of common household allergens and irritants that can trigger symptoms of their disease. Dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, pollen, volatile organic compounds, various airborne pollutants, chemicals and more. The asthma friendly® certification is an attempt identify quality products that may help to avoid, remove, reduce and/or control these types of allergens and irritants. Several asthma friendly® product standards have been published, including for vacuum cleaners, pillows, plush toys, bedding barriers and encasements, paints and more.

AAFA was founded in 1953 to address the growing prevalence of asthma and allergic diseases in the United States, and their involvement in the asthma friendly® program began in 2005.^[1] AAFA has also developed a variety of asthma and allergy health education programs, that have been validated through formal research to help improve health outcomes for patients.^[2] AAFA is funded by contributions from the public, along with gifts and grants from foundations and government agencies as well as charitable donations from private sector groups.^[3]
