Asse is a small mountain range near Wolfenbüttel in southeastern Lower Saxony with a median height of 200 m; the highest elevation is Remlinger Herse with a height of 234 m. There are more than 600 different plants found here; the Asse is mostlty covered by trees.

It is inhabited since the 6th century BC by farmers coming from the Danube region.

For several hundred years, salt is mined in this area. These mines are now used to store plutonium used by nuclear power plants.
