[edit] Requested Move

[edit] ş or sh?

With all due respect to the culture and traditions of the Turkmen, the name of the city in English in an English encyclopedia should be "Ashgabat," unless it should be transliterated some other way. How many English speakers know what ş means? I know it's "sh" in Turkish and suspect the same for Turkmen. This is more consistent with the majority of cases under Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(use_English)

In deference to Turkmen, please put a redirect at Aşgabat, but the article at Ashgabat.

Agree wholeheartedly. This is an English encyclopedia. And English language didn't have cedillas the last time I checked. Óðinn 22:20, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
agree, move to Anglicized name. Chris 06:24, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Done. Kghusker 18:24, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
You can't move pages by copying and pasting; it destroys the edit history. Please try WP:RM instead. Khoikhoi 04:26, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
So moved. -- Beland 23:14, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
You still need, however, to include the Turkmen spelling somewhere in the lead paragraph, rather than removing it entirely as you've done. Chris 03:15, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
