Ashwini Bhide Deshpande

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (born in 1960) is a Hindustani classical music singer in the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana tradition.

When Ashwini was five, she started learning music from Pandit Narayanrao Datar. She went on to graduate with a "sangeet visharad" from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Her mother, Smt. Manik Bhide, also a Khayal singer, also became her mentor. Ashwini combined her mother's style with her own touch. Currently she is under the tutelage of Pandit Ratnakar Pai, a veteran of the Jaipur gharana. Her schemes of improvisation, systematic exposition of the raga, alapchari style, taans, and command over three octaves distinguish her style. She is from and lives in Mumbai, India. She holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry.
