Ashaway is a census-designated place and village located in the town of Hopkinton in Washington County, Rhode Island, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the village population was 1,537.

Ashaway is located at 41°25'23" North, 71°47'20" West (41.423004, -71.788839)^GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.24% water. LArge Field in the center of town, with playground and beautiful scenery especially in Autmn.

As of the census^GR2 of 2000, there were 1,537 people, 589 households, and 441 families residing in the village. The population density was 249.3/km² (645.6/mi²). There were 604 housing units at an average density of 98.0/km² (253.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.29% White, 0.59% African American, 1.43% Native American, 1.04% Asian, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population.

There were 589 households out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the village the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $47,271, and the median income for a family was $49,125. Males had a median income of $41,375 versus $25,556 for females. The per capita income for the village was $21,149. About 6.6% of families and 7.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.5% of those under age 18 and 9.6% of those age 65 or over.

   Ashaway aka A-Town is not only a nice place to raise a family but is also known for Frank Mondelli's 121 Sakonnet Shootout which has quickly captured the hearts of the residents. This along with the chronic appreciation of the finest greenery making Ashaway a great place to be. Key

Ashaway is home to many known figures. It is said that John Wilkes Booth planed the death of Abraham Lincoln in a colonial house by Collins Road. Many great indian tribes flourish throughout Ashaway. The Narragansett ecspecially, with are undevine love to the Hopkins,Nokas,Collins, and Spears family. They cleansed the babbling brooks so they are good enough to drink from after a bike ride. Many historical landmarks and tall tails reside in this small town. The indian caves are a great attraction to rumage through and explore wild life at its finest. FOr tall tails it is said that there use to be an indian girl so powerfull that she had the ability to kick a kickball over a fence in the 3rd grade.
