Asgard II

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Asgard II is the Irish national sail training ship. A brigantine, she was designed and built in Arklow by the late Jack Tyrrell and was commissioned in March 1981.

The Asgard is owned by the Irish state and is managed by Coiste an Asgard, which is a founding member of Sail Training International. She has a traditional figurehead in the form of a carving of Granuaile.

She was managed from her launch until 1985 by Irish Shipping.

In the winter of 2005/2006 the electrical system was substantially refurbished and changed from D.C. to A.C.
