[edit] Song information
- Without a Song was performed at the very beginning of the Carpenters' TV Special, "Music, Music, Music!" in 1980.
- The Superstar/Rainy Days and Mondays medley was performed on "The Carpenters' Very First TV Special", which aired in 1976.
- Nowhere Man was an outtake that was performed by Richard and Karen in 1967. Apparently, the tracks needed to be de-noised, and the process was very excruciating and long.
- The I've Got Rhythm Medley was performed at the beginning of their TV Special, "Music, Music, Music!' in 1980.
- Dancing in the Street was performed on the Carpenters' third television special, "Space Encounters" in 1978.
- Dizzy Fingers was an instrumental performed by Richard in their last TV special. Richard ran from one piano to the next; to the next, to "spruce up" the TV special.
- You're Just in Love was actually a duet with Karen and John Davidson on their last TV special. Richard put his vocals on the track and removed John's for the release of this album.
- Karen and Ella performed a medley together with mainly Ella Fitzgerald's hits, but it opened with "This Masquerade".
- The medley from "Space Encounters" was performed on their third TV special, "Space Encounters".
- Leave Yesterday Behind was the theme to the movie with the same name from 1978.
- The medley performed by the Carpenters and Perry was from Perry's TV special from 1974. Richard covered some of Perry's vocals with his own.
- California Dreamin' was also another outtake from 1967-8.
- The Rainbow Connection was mainly for Kermit from the Muppet Show. They recorded it from about 1979.
- The Hits Medley was from 1976, on "The Carpenters' Very First TV Special" at the very end.
- And When He Smiles was originally performed by The Wildweeds. They liked the Wildweeds' version, and performed it on their BBC concert. Richard Carpenter added a string track for its release on this album.
