Russian:Автомат Специальный (АС) «Вал»
English: "Special Automatic Rifle", Code Name: "Shaft".
The AS "Val" Special Purpose Assault Rifle is a Russian designed folding stock assault rifle featuring an integrated silencer. It was developed during the late 80's by TsNIITochMash (Central Institute for Precision Machine Building) and is used by Russian Spetsnaz special forces including MVD, FSB and some units in the Russian Army.
Its effective range is around 300 m, as it uses heavy subsonic SP-6(high performance armor piercing 9 x 39 mm) ammunition, as well as the SP-5 ball round used by the VSS Vintorez. It can use the same 10 or 20 round magazines as the VSS Vintorez.
It uses the PSO-1 4x magnification optical scope calibrated for use with the 9x39mm round (weight: 0.56 kg (1.23 lbs.).
