[edit] Transport
It acts as a hub connecting Madurai, Thoothukudi, Muthuramalingapuram, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram. Virudhunagar town is about 16 km from here and is well connected by road. NH 45-B, an important freight-route, connecting Madurai and Thoothukkudi[4 way road] runs through Aruppukkottai.
[edit] Current issues
Although it's the main route for connecting the Southern Tamilnad with Madurai city, the road facilities are not up to the level. Roads are very narrow and with lot of dusts and pits, it just makes uncomfortable mainly during peak hours. Also another main problem was with drinking water and now plans have been initiated to bring water from Tamirabarani river. Hope it would quench the thirst.
Very Slow in development and lack of initiatives is the main reason for the same. Although it produces a lot of Professionals every year, it still lacks any development in industrial area which is a prime concern for the development of a particular area. No doubt if Madurai has some development, Aruppukottai will have too.
Arupukottai has one non working Railway station.Since this station is on meter gauge right now only one train operation. No one coming forward to make it broad gauge so that it will be connected to rest of tamilnadu.Thousands of people are travelling to Madurai, it is better to have metro train every 30 mins.
