Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Warfield Games

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alright, I rewrote and revamped the WFG entry to what should be a little bit more Wikipedia appropriate. Played down the excessive staff bios, increased the overall information for the games themselves (particularly Its War) and reorganized everything I didnt write up again. All this with the approval of Frost, of course. The changes are intended to comply with Wikipedia regulations, if they dont, I'd appreciate a notification that that's the case so we can clear it up. Hoping this will settle things a bit better.

Hello, I'm one of WFG member for at least 3 years. I would like to say that it's not a commercial. This site is totally free and always was. Community of WFG consist of ppl from all around the world.

I would like to keep it in Wikipedia in memory of creators-my friends.

Your sincerly

CMHQ_Widget

I'm the WFG employee who stepped up to create the Warfield_Games Wikipedia, however one of our games has for a long time been listed at Wikipedia (Itswar) and served as partial inspiration for me to create this site.

If something is done wrong or poorly, please feel free to contact me about it, but don't simply jump to a deletion debate based on one thing or another. WFG may be a small company, but it has survived for over two years despite numerous problems and is entering a new phase of growth.

I can see a few possible problems with the article and will definitely fix them if necessary. Furthermore, if a staff member cannot or should not maintain the page (as Wikipedia has said), I can gladly ask a number of members (including Widget) to maintain it. I'm perfectly willing to work in order to improve this article and make it a worthy addition, but as the article says it is definitely under construction. All good works of art aren't finished in a day!

Sincerely, Frost

First off, please let there be no hard feelings towards me, the person who proposed this article for deletion. Actually, I think your website looks great! Here are the couple of reasons why I think this article should be deleted. This article does poorly in the Alexa Rankings and on the Google Test (searching "wargames" and "war games"). However, since these things are not in Wikipedia's official policy, you may be able to get around that. The other beef I have with this article is that half of it is about the staff of this website. You have to improve this article significantly if you don't want this article to be deleted (note: we're not voting per se; we're actually attempting to reach a consensus whether to delete or keep this article). Who knows, maybe you can even sway my vote, but you have to work on this article. Even then, it might not be enough. However, one thing going for you is that your website seems to have a lot of members, which may make this article notable enough to be kept (that game you mentioned helps your case as well). It is vital to read this Wikipedia Guideline and edit this article to meet the criteria given. Thank you for handling this situation in a calm and professional manner. This is the sole reason why I'm trying to help you as best I can. EdGl 02:00, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the good words! I read Wikipedia's policy and it confirms my doubts that I should not be the one actually doing the Wikipedia. It is against their rules for an employee to maintain it, and as such I'll do whatever possible to find a site member who has the zeal to act on it. As far as the staff listing goes, I also had a concern about where to place it however it feels as if the site would be absolutely incomplete without the staff. Part of any gaming site, as you probably know, is community - And its the quirks and gimmicks of the various admins that help complete the feeling of a unified community. Do they belong at the top? Probably not, but that's not really my decision to make, anymore :) They do belong, however, for the same reason that The Tonight Show of Johnny Carson's time is different than The Tonight Show of Jay Leno's - People make up a lot of what draws other people.

Thank you for the help, it is very appreciated. I've done what I can to trim it down to something managable (and removed a lot of advertisement-style things) and will advise whoever succeeds me in doing even more to improve it. No hard feelings are meant at all. (But you know us gamer-nerds...We love to have friendly rivalries!)

Thanks! Frost.
