Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Robert Steadman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Reasons for keeping this article: Yes Mr Steadman does pop up in various places, but he does NOT meet Wikipedia's own tests for notability or the test for musicians. Apart from the fact that he has received a lot of publicity, what actual criteria DOES he meet? Those people who have voted to keep this article seem to be basing their opinion mainly on the facts that Mr Steadman includes in his website. Whilst these may be true - they are ceratinly not verifiable. I ask people to reconsider their opinions.Crusading composer 21:55, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- Please do not remove, move, or obscure the original AfD nomination, which is supposed to be at the top of the page for the convenience of those discussing and voting. The nomination was made by Bakewell Tart, but appears to have been displaced by a new paragraph by Crusading composer. This is improper. New material should either be added at the end, or in response to another editor's posts. MCB 01:05, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
MCB refers to him as a major figure why isn't he mentioned in these lists http://www.composer.co.uk/composers/index.html#british http://www.bmic.co.uk/Composers/CVintro.asp I suggest that he is not a major figure in music or education, just a minor part time composer/part time teacher who once briefly ran his own publishing company and once had an unsuccessful album released. Here is one test for you - where can you get hold of his music apart from downloads from his website? The only place that I know of is in a small seaside town I visit. It's a little shop at the bottom of a block of flats. I'll pop in there next week and see what they have in stock.Crusading composer 22:10, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- That list doe not include Howard Goodall, John Rutter, Peter Skellern, David Willcocks, Richard Shephard - or any one of a dozen others I could name off the top of my head. - Just zis Guy, you know? 13:07, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
STrange then, that he is listed on this BMIC page: http://www.bmic.co.uk/links/complink.asp?surname=s and the composer.co.uk site is concerned with people who have won the Cornelius Cardew prize. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? There is no reason, therefore, for Steadman, who writes in a more popular idiom, to be on that site. You do seem to just be stirring things and, as has been stated, you seem to have personal issues with Steadman which you really shouldn't have allowed to spill over onto Wikipedia. I do hope an admin looks into Crusading COmposer and Bakewell Tart's behaviour in thyis matter. Quite outrageous. 86.137.64.72 11:00, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
It's also worth noting that the things that he has done that are cited as reasons for keeping the article are pretty much from over 10 years ago - the commissions for Evelyn Glennie were over 15 years ago. He was a man with some promise, but never achieved this. Using Wikipedia's own criteria - rather than personal feelings - this article SHOULD be deleted.Crusading composer 22:22, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, that Bach guy hasn't done much lately either - we'd better AfD his article too. - Just zis Guy, you know? 22:27, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
