Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Macaca (slur)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term "Macaca" should be kept because of its overwhelming political and historical importance to Africans, Europeans, and Americans. It is clearly an emotionally charged "trigger word" in the context used by Patrice Lumumba (1960) & Sen. George Allen (R-VA) (2006). Herge, the widely read cartoonist, also used it as a derogatory term. To delete this term in an effort to achieve some sort of political correctness merely allows [and encourages] individuals to continue using racist slurs, and, when questioned about slurs, to merely respond that the questionable word was "made up on the spot." It is important that politically incorrect terms be archived for future researchers to understand the history of racism in the 20th and 21st centuries.
