[edit] Pav Akhtar
Not notable. Previously active in UK student politics, recently elected local councillor. Level of achievement below that listed in WP:BIO. Google hit count far below many other UK local politicians. csd notice removed by originator. Mr Stephen 10:20, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Weak delete does seem to just fail WP:BIO on each count. Note also that he is a borough councillor, not a county councillor. JPD (talk) 11:41, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Weak delete 9960 Ghits--Jusjih 14:58, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Correction Only 746 Google hits. Darnit, I should checked this 4 days ago. Bwithh 15:33, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Keep - Look him up on Google, an extremely notable individual who has featured in much of the NATIONAL British press, including Guardian and Telegraph newspapers, and BBC News. NUS2007 18:45, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- He was a junior journalist for the Daily Telegraph - he didn't "feature" in that newspaper. He's certainly not "extremely" notable. Guardian and Telegraph (see below for more detail on this) and one story in the Mirror and one brief mention in the Sunday Times were the only national newspapers that came up in a newspaper database search Bwithh 14:28, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Weak keep there's enough press ([1] [2]) to provide sources for an article. Ziggurat 23:41, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Delete Not notable enough - being in the newspapers isn't enough in itself (his mentions in the press seem very minor - mainly brief quotes). President of Cambridge University Students' Union is not a particularly impressive achievement given the low levels of student voting (16% turnout in the last election or about 2,880 votes total). National Union of Students also-ran presidency candidate/local councillor is not notable enough, even gay muslim ones Bwithh 05:14, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong keep. Borderline notable, but I don't care about that. He's fully verifiable. —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 09:11, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Comment Verifiability is not enough: from Wikipedia:Verifiability#Other_comments; Just because some information is verifiable, it doesn't mean that Wikipedia is the right place to publish it. Mr Stephen 15:29, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Very well, then: it's fully verifiable and encyclopedic (written in prose and organized under a descriptive name for purposes of reference is pretty much all that means—he'd fit right in to an Encyclopedia of Contemporary British Politics, say). My views on notability are on my user page. —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 06:48, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

- Keep - Notable enough for the national media to repeatedly ask for his opinion on a range of topics. MorganStanMan 11:20, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Comment Media notability only associated with his positions as National Union of Students Black Students Officer and as President of the Cambridge University Student Union. He has left both these positions. I did a Factiva newspaper and magazine database search on him and it came up with around 15 original stories referencing him (mostly just brief quotes) in those positions on student issues plus about 5 stories on him taking up the Cambridge position. About 20-30% of these stories appeared in regional, not national press. There were also about 30 mostly minor stories written by the subject when he was an entry-level journalist for the Daily Telegraph. Could not find any stories relating to his current role as local government councillor. Bwithh
- Delete (just). His name probably should be mentioned in various places, but he isn't quite noticeable enough for an article of his own. Captainj 22:35, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Strong keep A notable individual with a high hit rate on google. Wiki has full section on all NUS presidents, given he was very nearly an NUS president and then became a councillor, is very relevant to Wiki and of interest. alexmanchester
- Rebuttal Actually a poor hit rate on google - only 746 google hits. The previous figure of 9000+ cited by Jusjig was incorrect. Also, are you suggesting that we have articles on everyone who "nearly" becomes student union president. Local council position is not particularly notable. Bwithh 15:33, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Response Apologies I relied upon the earlier poster. Still a strong keep though. This individual is notable because of the amount of national publications who have asked his opinions on issues, and the fact that he is a gay muslim candidate for (not a student union but) National Union of Students president. Given the amount of controversy surrounding his election, this is still a strong keep - and a very well known person both in the student movement but also in the UK on issues of race relations.--86.132.192.82 17:19, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Response Sorry I hadn't logged in above - that poster was me :o) --alexmanchester 17:22, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
