The result of the debate was NO CONSENSUS. Now, I could probably have given the deleters their way here since this is what categories are for. However, I'm reluctant to do so given the nature of the nomination. -Splashtalk 18:03, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] List of Irish-Americans
being of Irish ethnicity is not relevant to what nationality or profession you are (an argument used against jewish lists). Arniep 20:07, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- Categorize. It's clear this and the preceding AFD is a case of WP:POINT in action, however this is too broad a topic for a list anyway as it's unmaintainable and could contain thousands of names. Make it a category (as I believe it already is). 23skidoo 22:53, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete per nomination. Jtmichcock 23:32, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete per nomination and 23skidoo. This is what categories are for, right? — Haeleth Talk 00:05, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Speedy keep. WP:POINT, bad faith nomination. --FuriousFreddy 01:44, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Strong Keep, What is the point of deleting this?? Keep all ethnicity lists. --Jondel 09:34, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete (depite the WP:POINT) this is already a category --Doc ask? 09:38, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete I can't see how lists like this are tenable --Ryano 12:40, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete ethnicity lists on general principle. Categories are much more appropriate for this. Nandesuka 14:16, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Keep — Nomination does not meet the criteria for AfD. Ethnicity of accomplished individuals is a valid topic. :) — RJH 16:34, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete and Categorize. --Hottentot 19:45, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
- Keep wow I just came on Wikipedia to look up some stuff about Irish Americans and I found stuff being deleted? Irish Americans have just as much right to be listed as any other group, I thought anti-Irish sentiment went out of fashion around 1950! JBH 22:04, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

- Note:This vote was JBH's 2nd edit (first edit November 18, 2005). Almost all other edits are in support of lists that were nominated for deletion--Bob talk 15:14, November 18, 2005 (UTC)
- Comment I'm Irish and I fail to see how wanting to delete this list represents "anti-Irish sentiment". --Ryano 00:15, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- CommentI didn't realise people who have just signed up are not permitted to vote, if that is the case, please accept my apologies. JBH 00:38, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Keep--BrenDJ 00:54, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Delete per Nandesuka and Doc. This list, in particular, has been the target of long-term (and utterly frivolous) controversy. As it's already a category, there's no need for a list.--chris.lawson 02:47, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Keep the Irish and Jewish lists etc.--File Éireann 00:03, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
