[edit] Alana Kiel
Alana Kiel is a 19 year old Australian female who has spent the last few years juggling work, family and personal committments since leaving school at the age of 16. She has been able to create an ongoing legacy of humour and sarcasm through her ever increasing circle of friends and hopes to claim face by being a human being of no historical significance included in the Wikipedia. Having hopefully accomplished this task she can rest easy in the fact that her legacy (though little at the moment it may be) will be upheld at least for the time being (or until someone edits and distorts this entry)

[edit] Clinton Desveaux
Clinton P. Desveaux (born 1973?) is a bilingual Acadian Canadian columnist, petrol chemical industry worker, and political activist, widely seen as being on the Libertarian wing of Canadian politics. He has been critical of Canadian statism and critical of the anti-freedom mentality in Canadian politics. He is known as a staunch supporter of economic and social liberty; a self-styled advocate for more individual rights.
Born in Ottawa Ontario Canada, Desveaux is rumored to work in the energy sector of Atlantic Canada.
Supporting the Reform Party of Canada because of meeting Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the very early 1990’s and at times also supporting the former Progressive Conservative Party of Canada as a teenager, Desveaux became involved with Garth Turner’s leadership run for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Turner had been one of the first PC members to recognize the importance of debt, deficit, and taxes while Desveaux was in high school. He has been involved with the Atlantic Institute for market studies which argues for smaller government, including privatization of many government departments.
Later in 1997 Desveaux was one of the first Atlantic Canadians to become involved with the national United Alternative meeting, and was deeply involved with organizing youth from Atlantic Canada to become involved with a merger idea of Reform and Progressive Conservative parties along with high ranking organizers Kevin Lacey and Paul Barnes.
In 1999 Desveaux found himself along with Kevin Lacey and Paul Barnes on the outside of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. According to all national media reports after the United Alternative meeting, and internal documents leaked to the Toronto Sun, proving that members were suspended and or expelled for organizational efforts to merge the PC and Reform parties. Desveaux found himself moving in a more libertarian direction as he became older.
In late 2001 and early 2002 Desveaux become involved with the leadership run of Stephen Harper for the Canadian Alliance party. Later becoming involved in Atlantic Canada’s leadership run of Stephen Harper for the newly formed Conservative Party of Canada. According to columns written by Desveaux, he seemed to have found it more difficult in supporting Harper or the Conservative Party of Canada because of perceived moves towards greater statism.
During the late 1990’s he became involved with column writing and focusing much of his writing on money supply issues including the Gold Standard, and interviewing jazz singers. He is rumored to own the largest Mel Tormé album collection in Canada.

[edit] USS Greencastle (PC-1119)
Greencastle (PC-1119) was laid down as PC-1119 at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company, in Bay City, Michigan, on 12 June 1942; launched on 11 August 1942; and commissioned at New Orleans, Louisiana, on 15 December 1942, with Lieutenant Commander James Duffy in command.
After shakedown off Key West,Florida, she sailed on 19 January 1943 for the Southwest Pacific. Steaming via New Caledonia, she reached Brisbane, Australia, on 12 March, and was assigned duty as flagship of the Allied Local Defense Forces, Northwest Australia. During the next 6 months she operated out of Brisbane, Townsville, and Cairns, Queensland, escorting convoys between Australia and New Guinea. During June and July she helped repel enemy planes that attacked Allied shipping at Port Moresby.
PC-1119 transferred her base to Milne Bay, New Guinea, in September, and from there she escorted convoys moving men and supplies along the coast of Huon Gulf. On 2 October she supported amphibious landings at Finschhafen, which was to become the jumping off point for the invasion of [[New Britain]. Transferred to the 7th Amphibious Force on 6 December, she supported the initial invasion during landings at Arawe, New Britain, on17 December. Nine days later, she supported landings by the 1st Marine Division at Cape Gloucester; then, after steaming along the northern coast of New Guinea, she participated in the assault against Saidor on 2 January 1944.
During the next 3 months PC-1119 escorted convoys along the New Guinea coast to the Admiralties and New Britain. She supported an amphibious landing at Talasea, New Britain, on 7 March. Driving westward along New Guinea, she joined the assault at Aitape on [[22 April[[; and as an escort and patrol ship, she supported landings on 3 July at Noemfoor, Schouten Islands. During this invasion she patrolled on anti-shipping sweeps as the Japanese attempted to send reinforcements by barge. After steaming to Australia in August, she returned to Aitape on 3 September to prepare for operations in the Moluccas. Between 15 and 24 September she steamed off Morotai, where she controlled landing craft and provided anti-aircraft cover for supply transports. Departing on 24 September, she sailed via Biak to Humboldt Bay where she arrived the 28th.
PC-1119 departed on 9 October for the invasion of the Philippines. Steaming via Manus, Admiralties, she closed the coast of Leyte on 20 October. After laying down shoal buoys at the northern end of Leyte Gulf, she served as landing control ship during the assault against Tacloban airfield. She remained off Leyte; and between 23 and 25 October she helped repel heavy enemy air attacks, during which she splashed three Japanese raiders.
Late on the 25th she sailed to search for survivors from gallant ships lost during the Battle off Samar. During mid-watch on 27 October, she rescued 183 men from the escort carrier Gambier Bay (CVE-73), then returned the same day to Leyte Gulf. Resuming duty as control and fire cover ship, she served in Leyte Gulf until 9 November. She sailed for New Guinea the 9th and reached Hollandia the 16th.
After repairs, she steamed to Sansapor, New Guinea, on 12 December to prepare for the invasion of Luzon. Departing in convoy on 30 December, she reached Lingayen Gulf on 9 January 1945, and there served as control ship for the landings at San Fabian Beach. The Japanese launched heavy air attacks against American shipping: and, while PC-1119 was returning to Leyte as a convoy escort, she was narrowly missed by suicide planes on the 12th and 13th.
The veteran sub chaser returned to Luzon on 29 January, and after supporting landings at San Felipe and San Narciso by troops of the 8th Army, she arrived at Subic Bay on 3 February. On the 15th, she escorted landing craft from Subic Bay for landings at Marivales, Bataan. The following day she served as fire support ship during the assault against Corregidor.
As the first amphibious wave closed the beach, she poured gunfire into enemy pillboxes and gun positions and silenced two Japanese guns. She was briefly caught in enemy crossfire between Corregidor and Caballo. Although damaged by an enemy shell, she embarked casualties from LCMs and evacuated them while under fire to an offshore LST.
PC-1119 operated off western Luzon and Mindoro on anti-shipping sweeps until 11 March when she sailed for Leyte, arriving there on the 14th. From 19 to 24 March she steamed via the Palaus to Hollandia. After repairing battle damage, she departed on 30 June and returned to Subic Bay on 8 July. During the next month she searched for enemy submarines off Luzon between Subic and San Fernando. Assigned to the Philippine Sea Frontier on 14 August, after the end of hostilities she patrolled the South China Sea to accept the surrender of Japanese submarines.
Remaining in the Philippines after the end of the war, PC-1119, "a little ship with a number instead of a name," compiled a Pacific war record that equaled many a larger ship. Assigned to the 16th Fleet on 19 March 1946, she returned to the United States and reported for duty on 10 August. She was decommissioned on 9 January 1947 at Green Cove Springs, Florida, and entered the Atlantic Reserve Fleet. While berthed at Green Cove Springs, she was named Greencastle on 15 February 1956. She was sold to Boston Metals Company, of Baltimore, Maryland, for scrapping on 1 July 1958.
Greencastle received five battle stars for World War II service.

[edit] Matrixism
Matrixism or The Path of the One is an internet-based new religious movement (NRM) inspired by the motion picture trilogy "The Matrix". Conceived by an annonymous group in the summer of 2004 it has grown to attract a following of over nine-hundred people to date.
Matrixism is a syncretic or ecumenical religion. It uses references to "the matrix" from an obscure text of the Baha'i religion, called "The Promulgation of Universal Peace", to make a connection with broader world religious history.
Matrixism carries with it four main beliefs that are described as "The Four Tenets of Matrixism". Briefly these are; belief in a messianic prophecy, use of psychedelic drugs as sacrament, reality veiwed as multi-layered and semi-subjective and lastly adherence to the principles of at least one of the world's major religions. The adopted symbol for Matrixism is the japanese Kanji symbol for "red". This symbol was used in the video game "Enter the Matrix".
One of the two holy days observed by Matrixists is the anniversary of the deaths of Aldous Huxley, John F. Kennedy and C.S. Lewis. All three of these famous persons passed away on the 22nd of November 1963. Religious laws specific to Matrixism include the abrogation of pornography, the legalization of same-sex marriage and the abrogation of professional sports.

[edit] Irving Gould
Irving Gould was the Canadian financier who bailed out Commodore International from heavy debt during the mid-1960s. He is largely blamed for the failure of the once great computer company. In Brian Bagnall's book On the Edge: The Spectacular Rise and Fall of Commodore, Gould is portrayed in an extremely negative light, the bane of engineers and management alike. Gould forced out Commodore founder Jack Tramiel in 1984 amidst a brief power struggle within the company. Gould was disliked by virtually everyone at Commodore, who largely viewed him as a jet-setting executive obsessed with avoiding taxes. Gould passed away in 2001, remaining an enigma to the very end.

Khutsong is a black township on the West Rand of South Africa, and scene of widespread unrest as of February 2006. It is situated close to the town of Carletonville [14].
Following the abolition of cross-border municipalities, the entire Merafong City Local Municipality which includes Khutsong, was transferred from the West Rand District Municipality in Gauteng Province to the Southern District Municipality in the North West Province. The residents of Khutsong objected to the transfer from wealthy Gauteng to the poorer North West.
Actions taken by residents included an application to the Pretoria High Court [15], and more violent activities, including petrol bombing the homes of African National Congress candidates [16], blocking roads [17], and destroying municipal property.

Built in 1968, it remains the tallest building in Ireland. It is the headquarters of Cork County Council as well as regional planning offices for the Munster region and civil service offices too. It was officially opened in April 1968 and was once again refurbished in 2005 making it one of Ireland's most modern buildings. It is 64m (211ft) in height and has 50 feet of piles penetrating the underlying rock as a foundation to the building. There will be an increase in useable office space from 3,000m² in the existing building to a final total of 7,000m² in the refurbished building and proposed extension. The increase in floor area will allow for the accommodation of around 600 staff in excellent working conditions within Cork County Hall.

[edit] USS Galena (PC-1136)
PC-1136 was laid down at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company, in Bay City, Michigan, on 17 December 1942; launched on 5 March 1943; and commissioned at New Orleans, Louisiana, on 16 November 1943, with Lieutenant (j.g.) Aliston Boyer in command.
After shakedown, PC-1136 operated out of Miami,Florida, and Key West, Florida, while receiving anti-submarine warfare training. Departing Key West on 1 January 1944, she steamed via the Panama Canal and the Society and Tonga Islands to arrive at Noumea, New Caledonia, on 12 March for duty as patrol and escort ship. From 27 March to 1 April she escorted merchant ships to Guadalcanal, then sailed the following day to Efate as escort for the ammunition ship USS Shasta (AE-6). Arriving on 4 April, she steamed on the 5th to Espiritu Santo to escort a merchant tanker to Guadalcanal.
PC-1136 reached Guadalcanal on 8 April, and for almost 2 months she continued intermittent convoy escort and ASW patrol duties out of the Solomons to New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. Departing in convoy 31 May, she arrived at Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, on 6 June to prepare for the invasion of Guam. Assigned to Task Group 58.1, she sailed the 9th, arriving east of the Marianas on 22 June. After patrolling east of Saipan, she returned to Kwajalein on 5 July. Between 15 and 21 July she steamed to Guam, where she served as amphibious control ship during the landings. After screening offshore transports during the next week, she departed for the Marshalls on 28 July and arrived at Eniwetok on 3 August. Between 5 and 13 August, she sailed to Saipan as a convoy escort. For almost 7 months she operated between the Marshals and the Marianas, escorting merchant ships and searching for enemy submarines. She departed Guam on 3 March 1945, touched at Eniwetok, and arrived at Pearl Harbor on 18 March.
After overhaul and conversion to a control ship, PC-1136 sailed for the Western Pacific on 21 May. Escorting a convoy of LSTs, she reached Guam on 9 June and resumed convoy escort duties in the Marianas. She departed Guam on 6 August, touched at Ulithi, and arrived at Subic Bay, Philippines, on 15 August. She was reclassified to PCC-1136, 5 days later. After steaming to Lingayen Gulf on 10 September, she escorted a convoy of LSTs to Japan, arriving at Wakayama on 19 September. Between 24 and 30 September she returned to Lingayen Gulf; and during the first 2 days of October she sailed to Manila.
PCC-1136 departed Manila for the Marianas on 17 October and arrived at Guam on the 22nd. For more than 6 months she operated out of Guam, steaming to Saipan, Rota, Marianas, and Ulithi. She sailed for the United States on 1 May 1946 via Eniwetok and Pearl Harbor, arriving at Astoria, Oregon, on 29 May. She decommissioned on 28 July 1946 and entered the Pacific Reserve Fleet. While berthed in the Columbia River, she was classified PC-1136 on 27 October 1955 and named GaIena on 15 February 1956. She was sold by the Navy on 11 March 1960 to Miami Ports Company, and subsequently scrapped.
PC-1136 received one battle star for World War II service.

[edit] kicking off from own 35 yard line
In Canadian football, following a score (other than a single) a team that has been scored against can elect to return the ball to play by way of a place kick, off of a tee no more than three inches in height, off of their own 35 yard line (at a point between the hash marks, requiring the scoring team to kick off from their own 35 yard line, or scrimmaging from its own 35 yard line. Following a safety, the scoring team has this option.
The practice of kicking the ball back to the team that scored against you, originated during the early days of Canadian football. This is the more gentlemanly aspect of the game, as it gives the other team a fair chance to catch up during a rout. Arguments have been made to abolish this rule by those who feel this is patronising, though all have been rejected.

Eurosepticism is all about plumbing. When your septic system does not work, call a plumber from eastern Europe. Their experience with overloaded soviet toilets is unvaluable.

[edit] Blindwino - Mark Driver
Anti-Establishment author and sometime columnist.
Wrote the bulk of his columns on the http://www.blindwino.com website in the late nineties. Covered a wide array of topics, with political themes becoming more common as time went on. The hardcore punk music and lifestyle he enjoyed figured prominently. Noted for his anarchic style and frequently creative use of obscene language. While often arguably rambling, he is usually coherent and often extremely amusing.
His novel, Just Another Empire, though set in the 17th century and narrated by a French nobleman in New Orleans, uses Driver's late twentieth century male American voice. While this may seem jarring, it is used consistently. At intervals as the quasi-historical episodes continue, the novel switches to the experiences of the author suffering job loss and eviction. Both narratives are resolved at the ending, with the 17th century story taking a flamboyant and ambitious twist.
Made music with band Snitches get stitches in recent years.

[edit] Stagville
Stagville Plantation is located in North Central North Carolina. The plantation, a part of one of the largest plantation complexes in the South, was owned by the Bennehan-Cameron family. The complex, which was comprised of roughly 30,000 acres, including the Little River plantation, was also "home" to almost 900 slaves. Now, Stagville's historic holdings include several of these slave residences, which are very well preserved. Several significant archaeological finds in and around these houses have given historians a glimpse into the lives of the slaves who lived and worked at Stagville. Also on the site are several historic houses and barns, including the original Bennehan home.
The land was originally donated to the state of North Carolina by the Liggett and Meyers Tobacco Company in 1976. Stagville represents a unique look at North Carolina's history and infrastructure in the pre-Civil War South.
