Arthur Ting

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. Arthur Ting is an orthopaedic surgeon and the team physician for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League (both teams play in San Jose's HP Pavilion). Dr. Ting is also the team orthopaedist for Menlo College, a small liberal arts school which competes on the NCAA Division III circuit (Northwest Conference) and NAIA circuit (California Pacific Conference). He currently lives in Palo Alto. Ting currently works at the Fremont Sports Therapy and Surgery Center, which is responsible for the medical treatment of many Bay Area professional sports organizations, including the Oakland Raiders. He earned his medical degree at Saint Louis University and did his residency at the University of Southern California. In May, 2004, he had his license to practice medicine revoked, then stayed with five years probation. [1]

He is called "the doctor to the stars" and has caught flack for being the doctor for Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants. [2]

He has worked with former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders, former San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig, golfer Tiger Woods, Houston Rockets center Yao Ming and the Dallas Cowboys's Terrell Owens.

His twin sons, Brandon and Ryan, play American football for the University of Southern California. One is a wide receiver and the other a cornerback for the USC Trojans. Both Brandon and Ryan quit the team in July 2006, claiming that they wished to focus on their preparations for medical school. The following week, it was revealed that Brandon had tested positive for steroids. [3]
