Arthur Szyk

Arthur Szyk (1894 - 1951) was a Poland-born American artist, famous for his anti-Axis political illustrations and cartoons during World War II.
Szyk was born in Łódź, Poland, to Jewish parents. He studied art in Paris and Kraków. During World War I he served in the Russian Army. In 1919-1920 during the Polish-Soviet war, he served as artistic director of the Department of Propaganda for the Polish army in Łódź. In 1921, he moved to Paris. In 1934, Szyk exhibited his works in the United States, including an exhibition of his George Washington — American Revolution series at the Library of Congress. After a period of residence in England, in 1940 he immigrated to the United States.
