Arthur Hyman is the Dean of the Bernard Revel Graduate School and the Distinguished Service Professor of Philosophy at Yeshiva University, where he has been teaching for the past 38 years. He has also taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary, Yale University, Columbia University and Hebrew University in Jerusalem] Professor Hyman’s books and articles on medieval Jewish philosophy have been published worldwide; most noteworthy are his collections of essays on medieval Jewish, Christian, and Islamic philosophy, and his nonpareil critical edition of Averroes.

Hyman has made major contributions in medieval Jewish scholarship, yet his most lasting legacy may be as an advocate and leader in the field of Jewish Studies. Hyman has served as president of both the American Academy for Jewish Research and the Society for Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy. He has also served on the board of directors of the Association for Jewish Studies and is currently the editor of Maimonidean Studies.
