Artemisia

Artemisia is the name of two ancient Anatolian rulers, often confused with one another:
- Artemisia I of Caria, tyrant of Halicarnassus in the 5th century BC who participated in the Battle of Salamis;
- Artemisia II of Caria II of Caria, satrap of Caria in the 4th century BC;
It is also:
- the first name of the Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi;
- Artemisia, a genus of plants including the sagebrush and wormwood;
- Artemisia Geyser in Yellowstone National Park is, in turn, named after for the sagebrush-like colour of its formation;
- a village west of Taygetus mountain, in Messinia, Peloponnese, Greece;
- Artemisia, Zakynthos, a municipality on Zakynthos, Greece.
