[edit] Languages and SAF

He speaks five languages

Speaks at least 3 languages (French, English and German; no suprise, since he is from Strasbourg).

Alex Ferguson was knighted...should the title always be displayed?

Whilst on the subject of Fergie, in footballing terms, he too is a foreigner, as Scotland is independent with it's own FA and league system, meaning that Arsene is not the only foreigner to do the double, as both Fergie and Kenny Dalglish are foreigners as far as football is concerned. I'm not going to change it, as whenever I change anything, even if my changes are correct, someone puts it back and sends me a message telling me not to change stuff, so can someone else in a position of authority please correct this mistake.

Change the wording to non-British? Xiner (talk, email) 19:16, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arsène Wenger

I suggest to remove the last paragraph Controversies as it is small talk and very unimportant detail in such a man's career. The paragraph looks so elemantery and outdated as news.

Wenger must be German background...his last name doesnt sound French.... Does anybody know??? Its never mentioned which is a bit of a surprise....

He's from Strasbourg. Markyour words 21:52, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Strasbourg is in the Alsace region which changed between "German" and French rule several times in the last 200 years. I did read an article that mentioned that his ancestors fought against 'the other side' but I can't remember which side they fought for, or if the sides were different for each generation.

Why does it say in the awards section: In October 2004, he signed a contract extension that will keep him at Arsenal through the 2007/2008 season. What has this got to do with awards? sludgey choi chi men sohne

[edit] Top 2 finishes

I changed the sentence about never being outside the top 2 since 1998 as they scraped into 4th this year.
—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.93.21.70 (talkcontribs).

[edit] English players

I've made an edit to the comment about him not fielding "any" English players - change made to "many", due to the fact that he does actually field a few, including Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole. Cyril Washbrook 07:49, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Controversies

The article appears skewed towards events in last season maybe the section should be divided into rivalries with Sir Alex Ferguson/Manchester United, Morinhio/Chelsea and Jol/Tottenham Hotspur —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vivbaker (talkcontribs).

So the main part of his career/life/biography is his rivalries with other managers? I don't think so. Yonatanh 02:59, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
The change in Arsenal's disciplinary record since the game at ManU in 2003 is worth pointing out, but I otherwise agree with you. Xiner 16:49, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The man's picture

Is there no other good picture of the Professor in casual clothes? There's a guy in the background in the current one. Xiner 16:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

That guy is Boro Primorac, Arsenal's first team coach! (And a longtime right hand man of Arsene) TheMongoose 04:29, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Of course. How daft of me. Xiner (talk, email) 19:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] School Teacher?

I've heard it said Wenger taught in a school for a while, is this true?

[edit] Controversies, Part 2

The last two or three incidents in that section are handbags. I think we should delete them. Xiner (talk, email) 17:10, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The new photo

I reverted the change because a free-license image is already available, so I don't think the fair-use rationale works. Please let me know if you think I made a mistake. Xiner (talk, email) 02:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I strongly urge the restoration of the original, free-use image on the article. I'd hate to list any more images for deletion on IFD than the three I have put there. Xiner (talk, email) 03:54, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The new edit about Alan Shearer

Even if sourced, with all due respect, the passage is still neither here nor there on this article about the manager. I'll revert it later if no one does it first - it belongs in Shearer's article really. Xiner (talk, email) 22:40, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The change to Controversies section

Please read through this page for previous discussions regarding the section, and substantially change the article only after a discussion. Thank you. The Carling Cup thing was blown out of proportion by the media - Andy Gray said two red cards would've sufficed! And it doesn't change the fact that no one's complained about Arsenal's disciplinary behavior in three years. Xiner (talk, email) 14:32, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Milestone

Sky Sports News claimed that the Gunners' next game will be Wenger's 400th league game in charge, which puts the 605 stated in the article in question. - Dudesleeper · Talk 19:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I only see the ca.-600 numbers in the article when talking about Wenger's total games in charge of Arsenal. That includes cup games like the F.A. Cup. Xiner (talk, email) 19:37, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
I thought only league games were to be included in those tables. Are cup games included in his stats for his other managerial positions? If not, that makes it very Arsenal top-heavy. Dudesleeper · Talk 19:51, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Usually they break them out into cup and league games, but please see Sir_Alex_Ferguson#Managerial_honours. Total games include cup games there, it seems. Xiner (talk, email) 20:17, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Biography

I'd deliberately left it out of WikiBanners because I thought the BLP warning should be displayed prominently. Xiner (talk, email) 13:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
