Arsikere is a town in Hassan district, Karnataka, India.It is known for its coconut production and malekallu tirupathi hill. There is also an old temple built by Hoysala rulers by name Shivalaya built by Jakanachari. Arsikere is also a major railway junction of Karnataka. It has a population of about 50,000.The malekallu tirupathi hill has 1250 steps and its believed that lord RAMA had visited this place.its the only place you can see a standing venkateshwara idol other than famous tirupati of andhra pradesh. The place has its importance not only as main railway junction but also as central place to visit some of the world famous places like Belur[40kms] , Halebeedu[25kms] and Shravanabelagola[80kms].It was only the important towns during Hoysala tenure and the name Arsikere comes from one of the Princess of the Hoysala dynasty who built one big Pond [kere in kannada]. so its 'Arasiya+kere' which means 'Princes-Pond'.It has given some of the best celebratries like Javagal Srinath, Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, film actor Balakrishna and others.The Ganesha Festival Celebrated here is a World Famous one. It is celebrated nearly for 2 and half to 3 months.
