Arroyo Seco Junior High School

Arroyo Seco Junior High School is a public junior high school in Saugus, California. It is a member of the William S. Hart Union High School District. Rhondi Durand, Cathy Novean, and Andy Keyne are the principals. It is the second oldest junior high school in the Santa Clarita Valley^{[citation needed]}. Its mascot is the Conquistador and its colors are red and black.

[edit] Construction

[1]Arroyo Seco is undergoing modernization along with three other schools in the district. Rennovations include:
1. Completely redesigned quad
2. Removal of almost all grass and all mature trees from school.
3. Painting and recarpeting of all current buildings, along with other small changes ex. new indoor paint job
4. Building a new gymnasium where portables used to sit.
5. Moving of Library to the old spot of the gym.
6. Building of new two-story special education/resource building
7. Building of new science building which includes 3 8th grade science classrooms.
8. Rennovation of all campus bathrooms

Modernization is expected to end by the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. Much of the construction has been completed, with just the new gym and new science buildings to be completed.

Arroyo Seco enjoys a very active ASB. Four dances per year are held, two food days and many noontimes are held. Some very successful projects that the ASB has completed are: the Las Vegas Dance, the Magazine Drive, the Blacklight Dance, and the Funriffic Fridays. Student participation in ASB events has been very high this year, which shows that the students actually enjoy ASB events.

The teams in Arroyo Seco are teams in which students are placed at the beginning of the year. The students are then rotated every day, through out the periods. Some of the 2006-2007 teams are:

8th Grade:

7th Grade:

CNN hold the morning announcements every morning from 7:45 to 7:52. Some humerous pieces have been put together along with some very touching pieces for events such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Veteran's Day. Arroyo Seco was the last Hart District school to have a video production class. [2]
