Aron (ココドラ Kokodora?, Cokodora in original Japanese language versions) are one of the fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise—a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards, and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Aron in the games, anime, and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon—untamed creatures that characters encounter while embarking on various adventures— and tamed Pokémon creatures owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

Aron's name is derived from the words "armour" and "iron". The "ko" of its Japanese name means "child", meaning its name is literally "child of Kodora".

[edit] Biological characteristics

Aron has a body of steel. Despite its tiny size, it can demolish a heavy dump truck. Aron feeds on iron ore it digs from mountains, and uses the nutrients to sustain its steel body. It usually lives in colonies very deep below the mountain, usually about a mile down. If iron ore becomes unavailable, the colony moves to another place to search for solid iron objects. This even includes steel bridges and rails, something which occasionally causes problems for humans. Because of this, Aron colonies are largely considered a pest to society. Manufacturers, however, can consider Aron a blessing. When Aron evolves, it sheds its old iron casing. This iron is very tough, and is used by humans to make iron products. When it evolves at level 32, it becomes a Lairon then at level 42, an Aggron.

[edit] In the video games

Aron is available in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. It can be found in Granite Cave and Victory Road. It can also be rarely found in Pokémon XD in the Cave Pokespot. Aron is also in many areas of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Aron has average stats, so its evolutions Larion and Aggron are preferred for proper battle. One exception is its excellent Defense stats, which equal that of Shellder. It's Attack is slighty above average, but is okay for a basic-Pokémon which can evolve twice. Also, Aron's Rock Head ability allows it to use Take Down and Double Edge without hurting itself.

[edit] In the anime

Aron makes its debut in the episode "A Hole Lotta Trouble" where the main characters get lost in the extensive cave system of Dewford Island and run into a colony of Aron. It makes a few cameos in other episodes as well.
