Arnamagnæan Collection

The Arnamagnæan Collection (Danish: Den Arnamagnæanske Samling) is an institute established in 1956 to further the study of Árni Magnússon's Arnamagnæan Codex collection, which in his testament was left to the University of Copenhagen in 1730. The institute is the successor of the Arnamagnæan Foundation (Danish: Den Arnamagnæanske Stiftelse), created in 1760.
Until July 1, 2003 the Arnamagnæan Collection was known as The Arnamagnæan institute (Danish: Det Arnamagnæanske Institut).
The Arnamagnæan Collection is part of the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Humanities and together with Afdeling for Dialektforskning and Afdeling for Navneforskning known as Nordisk Forskningsinstitut.
The Arnamagnæan commission (Danish: Den Arnamagnæanske Kommission), created in 1772, is the administrating body of the Arnamagnæan legat, the endowment from Árni Magnússon private estate from which money was to be drawn for the publication of text editions and studies pertaining to the manuscripts.
The Arnamagnæan Collection is today both a publisher and teaching faculty, dealing primarily in old west-Nordic and modern Icelandic language and literature. To a lesser degree also in old east-Nordic language and literature.
