[edit] Fair use images in templates

Re: [1]. Per terms of Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9, the use of fair use images in templates is not permitted. Suggestion: copy the template code into the article and put the image in the copied code. Please do not reinsert the image into the template. If you have questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks, --Durin 13:25, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yesha Council

The section as it stands mischaracterises them as being more influential than they are. Additionally, to be NPOV there would then have to be statements from Hezbollah et al which have not been included as tangential. Cheers, TewfikTalk 18:37, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I find that conversation is more productive if we don't start assuming bias. My point is that 1. it is a nonmainstream source that is being characterised as more important than it is, and 2. until now we have not included nonmainstream sources from both sides, and including this is a non neutral presentation of facts. TewfikTalk 18:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I apologise for not being clear. I was not questioning Ynet (though your assertion that it was big news in Israel doesn't seem to be accurate anymore, as I couldn't find any headlines), but rather the Council's importance. If we gave a subsection to every statement by every small group on either side, we would not have an article. Do you disagree with this? TewfikTalk 19:04, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:LebIs.gif

Hi ArmanJan, Please don't just remove the dispute tag I have inserted for the Image:LebIs.gif map, and please refrain from being so rude. I have shown you clearly the source of your map, and the tagging was logged already on 2 August on the Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images page. If you want to defend your current picture, please do so there, otherwise it will be deleted by an administrator eventually, irrespective of if the map is still tagged or not.

Although you seem to think so, I'm definitely not trying to be difficult, but copyright infringements are regarded as a very serious matter within the Wikipedia community, and there are several hundreds of pictures being disputed and removed every day because of this. Try to play by the rules, otherwise some of your opponents (and I'm definitely not one of them) will get you blocked, which I think would be a great pity. As it's a .gif I suspect you have found the original on the net and I believe you when you say that you've never seen the UN map before. However, whoever put the map on the net took it from the UN map, so the problem of copyright is there and won't go away. But you can easily change that map into your own creation by adding a new layer to the original (in, for instance, Photoshop), redraw the border and add the most important places to that layer, and finally delete the original map layer. Presto, you'll have a new map that you can safely call your own. I'm just trying to be helpful. If you don't have access to such software, I'll be happy to do it for you. Just let me know. Hi ArmanJan, can you provide some info on Image:IRGCComInChief.jpg about copyright status. It is about to be deleted. Is it fair use from Farsnews.com? We should try to keep this image. --HResearcher 07:15, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Zelzal-2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Zelzal-2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 02:12, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Zulfiqar1.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Zulfiqar1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nilfanion (talk) 22:15, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Two Articles in need of your attention

There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created by Pan-Turkists-- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:

The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.

Any contributions would greatly appreciate – please add your comments, whether you agree with the deletion, or otherwise to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turco-Persian as well as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turko-Persian Tradition. Bā Sepās Surena 03:00, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Islamic Revolutionary Guards

I am currently looking into the IRGC page. I would be grateful, since you speak Persian, if you could tell me is there any distinction in Persian between the words "Guard" and "Guardian"? Mesoso 18:02, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] commons:Image:Strait of Hormuz.jpg

Hi, when I first saw this image I thought it was a copyvio, because User:Pascal said that "I made the map myself, using [2] as an example," which on a quick inspection requires a lot of faith to believe, as it is merely a crop with some minor tweaks to the text. IMO it is clear that it is a derivative work. A bit more digging indicates that the original image is in the PD, so there is no problem. So to avoid confusion, I have reworded the description to clarify things a little; is this appropriate/acceptable? John Vandenberg 03:05, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
