[edit] Description

The game starts off with Spawn on a decrepit rooftop above New York City's forgotten backstreets, thinking about the decision he made in life that condemned him to this wretched existence. As he moans in anger, a violently green shaft of light strikes down from the sky, sending a shockwave of incandescent energy flooding through the city. The people and structures of New York don't seem to be affected by the green beam, but when the wall of green fire hits Spawn, he feels his symbiotic costume writhe in pain. He is hurled backwards; only by grabbing a nearby water tower does he avoid being helpessly cast down into the streets below. Spawn recovers from the blast, his eyes narrowing as his cape gathers together and turns into his Agony Axe.

[edit] Gameplay

This gameplay focuses on fast and stylish combat (similar to the Devil May Cry series) gaining high breakable items, Souls, Technique points, comic covers, Time and Ranks. Spawn's main weapon is the Agony Axe (formed by his cape), which can cut through any demon. He is also armed with his trademark chains, which attack with great accuracy and speed. Spawn also finds firearms to use on stronger demons. He is also capable of using various hellish powers, particularly the necroplasm. The game features upgrades; Spawn must collect demon souls in order to buy ammunition, upgrade his weapons and increase his maximum health or necroplasm bar.

[edit] Characters

Various characters from the Spawn comic book are featured in the game:

  • Spawn — the main character of the game. Once the assassin Al Simmons, who was murdered and sold his soul to the demon Malebolgia in order to see his beloved wife again. Spawn must find out the cause of the green beam. As he is searching for answers he is caught up in a war between Heaven and Hell.
  • Violator — also known as the Clown. Despite his appearance, he is not a human being but a demon. He believes himself to be the perfect demon to lead the armies of Hell, but Malebolgia prefers someone with a soul of Mankind — namely, Spawn. Violator's jealousy has brought both the two together on many occasions.
  • Mammon — one of Spawn's guides and his mentor. His motives are unclear to Spawn, who isn't sure whether he can wholly trust this suave character. However, Mammon is extremely knowledgeable and Spawn can take advantage of that.
  • Cy Gor — an escaped experiment. Cy Gor is a cyborg gorilla, an experimental creature by Jason Wynn. Apparently freed by the green beam, Cy Gor now roams the city, destroying anything that tries to stop him. It is up to Spawn to stop this raging beast.

[edit] Weapons

The game features nine weapons:

  • Axe of Agony: This is Spawn's main weapon. The weapon first appears in Soul Calibur II.
  • Chains: Can be used for attacks one at a time, or all together. When used together, they can hold an enemy up in the air and rip them apart. They can also be used to reach otherwise unaccessible areas.
  • Sawed-off Shotgun: Causes great damage to demons at close range, but ineffective over longer ranges.
  • Semi-Auto Pistol: Developed by Jason Wynn's company, this weapon was intended for use against Spawn and creatures from Hell.
  • Madcap Sub-Machine Gun: This weapon allows greater accuracy over greater distances. The ammunition has high armor-piercing potential.

  • Minigun: Featuring multiple air-cooled barrels, the minigun is used as a support weapon capable of tearing through entire units of enemies. The minigun can only be used by charging it first.
  • Brimstone Cannon: A weapon developed by angel scientists. The Brimstone Cannon uses necroplasm extracted from captured demons both as its power source and ammunition.
  • Burst Missile Launcher: The second most powerful weapon in the game, the Burst Missile Launcher fires three missiles per cartridge. It causes tremendous damage, though it has a slow rate of fire and also slows Spawn's movements while he wields it.
  • Inferno Cannon: Also developed by angel scientists, this weapon causes incredible damage on demons. However, it is fairly slow, and has to be charged by Spawn. This weapon also slows Spawn's movements down.
