The episode starts with Spider-Man literally swinging to Felicia Hardy's house to pick her up to tutor her in physics as Peter Parker (he's apparently surprised that her front lawn is the size of Central Park). Felicia prepares to get her jacket to go out with Peter but is kidnapped by a dark figure who appeared to have four metal arms, knocking out Peter unconscious to get away with Felicia.

Later on, Peter was talking to the FBI about Felicia being kidnapped but they don't believe Peter's story (mocking him by asking if he had a couple of extra heads). Anastasia Hardy, Felica's mom, arrives and is devastated to hear from the FBI Felicia was kidnapped. One of the agents gives Mrs. Hardy a ransom note signed by a man named Otto Octavius, who Mrs. Hardy knew in the past. She explained they wouldn't fund his research and he must have kidnapped Felicia for revenge.

Peter then remembers about Octavius because when he was ten years old, his late Uncle Ben put him in science camp and the man who ran it was Dr. Otto Octavius. One time when Peter was making an experiment and it blew up in his face, humiliating himself in the class he was in, Octavius explained that their laughter is no matter and science is the most important thing in life.

This later shifts onto Octavius himself, presently, with Felicia, holding her hostage and tied up in an abandoned warehouse. Octavius explains his origin to Felicia that her mother wouldn't fund his research because he was too far behind. They fired him and he moved his experiments underground where an accident ensued, having four metal arms wielded to his spine and became the evil villain, Dr. Octopus.

J. Jonah Jameson is broadcasting a live report about Felicia Hardy's kidnapping and insists that if Octavius calls, they'll give him anything he wants as long as Felicia isn't harmed or worse. Dr. Octopus then calls and asks Jameson to bring him one million dollars in cash alone without anyone else with him.

Jameson comes to Ock's hideout and meets him. Just when Octopus has his money, Spider-Man arrives and duels Ock in a battle. Unfortunately, Ock wins by throwing Spider-Man out a window an escaping when Spider-Man came back, demanding double the ransom now that he has Jameson hostage.

Spider-Man is trying to explain to Mrs. Hardy that even if Octopus had his money, he wouldn't let Felicia go. But Mrs. Hardy ignores Spider-Man and even Joseph Robbie Robertson, Spider-Man's best friend, even blames him. Spider-Man then goes home to his Aunt May's and thinks if Spider-Man can't stop Ock, then Peter Parker can.

Robbie Robertson arrives to Mrs. Hardy and the FBI with a video tape from Dr. Octopus, explaining if the money doesn't arrive to him on time, Felicia and Jameson will die. After the video is over, Peter arrives and tries to explain how to deal with Ock. The FBI ignores him but Mrs. Hardy protests and insists on they should hear him out. They then listen and Peter explains the most valuable thing in Octavius' life is science. Before Peter can finish his explanation, the phone rings and Peter picks it up, figuring out Dr. Octopus was calling. Peter tells Ock he will be the one giving him his money. Ock agrees.

Peter then arrives at Dr. Octopus' abandoned rocket hideout and gives Ock his money. But before Ock could set Felicia and Jameson go, Ock then explains his machine which generates fusion. Peter then tells Ock he is no longer his student and there's nothing more he can teach him. That angered Ock and he attacked Peter, having him fall into a pile of junk. Spider-Man then arrives and battles against Ock. The wall-crawler apparently has Ock's robotic tentacles magnotized onto a dynamo and saves Felicia and Jameson from being flamed on by a rocket take-off. After the two are saved, Spider-Man leaves and Felicia finds Peter a little wounded from Ock's attack.

The episode finally finishes with Ock being seen jailed and telling himself he will have his revenge.
