Armoured Angel were a heavy metal band that formed in Canberra, Australia in 1984. They were arguably the first Australian band, if not one of the earliest in the world, to play the style of music that would soon be known as death metal. They were also organisers of Australia's biggest metal festival, Metal For The Brain.

[edit] History
The band was formed in 1984 by founder Glen "Lucy" Luck (bass), Rick Wayy (vocals), Dave Davis (drums) and Tony Sheaffe (guitars). After recording a demo in 1985, the band split and reformed as a trio with Lucy, with brothers Joel Green (drums, vocals), and Matt Green (guitar) in 1987. The band recorded an independent EP titled Wings of Death in 1988, which garnered a strong cult fanbase, then a second EP in 1990 called Communion. An east coast tour of Australia followed, plus a re-release of Wings of Death on English record label CCG in 1991.
1991 also saw the inaugural Metal For The Brain festival, which was organised by Joel Green. Green had organised the festival as a benefit concert for his close friend Alec Hurley, who had been savagely beaten in a hotel brawl in 1990, and left permanently disabled. Joel and Armoured Angel continued to organise the Metal For The Brain festivals until 1996.
Armoured Angel signed to Id records, and released the Stigmartyr EP in 1992, and the Mysterium EP in 1994. These EPs would spark the pinnacle of the band's career, following touring with Morbid Angel and Bolt Thrower, an appearance at Big Day Out festival, and touring in the US and Europe. The band were making a huge name for themselves in both Australia and overseas, but their reign was cut short when the Green brothers left the band in 1996.
Lucy reformed Armoured Angel in 1998 with guitarist/vocalist Yuri Ward and drummer Steven Luff, and released a full-length album Angel of the Sixth Order on Warhead Records. However, the original success of Armoured Angel could not be repeated, and the band split again in 1999.
