Armory is the function of devising, marshalling, and regulating emblematic representations according to established conventions, practices, and precedents. This is done in order to create a unique and distinctive symbol by which authority, hereditary gentility or corporate preeminence may be recognized. The symbols in use generally refer to coats of arms. Armory can also be used to denote the study of the same. Often used as a synonym for heraldry or aspilogia.
