Armitt Library

Armitt Library is an independent library and museum, founded in Ambleside in Cumbria by Mary Louisa Armitt in 1909.
In 1997 the library and collections moved to a new building in Ambleside, known as The Armitt.
The library of over 10,000 books covers the local and natural history of the Ambleside area and the wider Lake District. It is an important resource for information on notable people connected with the area, including William Wordsworth, Harriet Martineau, John Ruskin, Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley and Kurt Schwitters.
There are also over 450 watercolours by Beatrix Potter of archaeological and zoological subjects.
