The Armadale line was opened on 2 May, 1889. The original stations were Perth, Kelmscott and Armadale. Cannington and Welshpool opened later in 1897 and 1898 repectively.[1]

The following stations then opened:

In September 1991 the line commenced electrified operation. [5]

Between 2004 and 2005, Armadale, Carlisle and Gosnells were upgraded to provide better facilities to passengers and provide better access between trains and buses. Victoria Park will be slated for upgrading works as well, possibly starting in 2007. [6] Lathlain station was closed on February 3, 2003 as part of the project.

The latest station, Thornlie, was opened on August 7, 2005. [5] The station is built on a spur line of the Armadale Line.

Between 1992 and August 8 2005, trains on the Armadale line continued through Perth to the Joondalup line. In 2004 new railcars were introduced, which became exclusive to the Joondalup line. Consequently, from 2005, Armadale Line trains no longer ran through Perth to other lines.

[edit] Train Stations

During peak hour times on weekdays, some train stations are non-stopped for faster commutes. The Armadale line also runs express trains during the weekdays, and even on weekends. This is the only line where expresses are run in non-peak hour times.
