Admiral Arlen McAteer is a fictional character in the non-canon Star Trek series Stargazer.

Arlen McAteer is one of young Captain Jean-Luc Picard's superiors, and deeply hates him. McAteer's colleague, Admiral Mehdi, originally promoted Picard to Captain after his successful rescue of the USS Stargazer after the death of her original captain, Daithaniel Ruhalter. McAteer, however, feels Picard is too young and inexperienced to command a starship, and does everything in his power to give him the most boring and useless missions. Picard knows fully well McAteer hates him, even though he never admits it to Picard's face.

McAteer and Picard's second-in-command, Commander Gilaad Ben Zoma, were once kidnapped by an alien force. During their captivity, McAteer suddenly became friends with Ben Zoma, and claimed to like the crew of the Stargazer. After their rescue, McAteer promised Ben Zoma his own command, providing he would file an unfavourful report about Picard. Ben Zoma discovered that McAteer's friendship with him had been a sham, and turned down McAteer's offer.

In Picard's court martial, McAteer was the only one of the three admirals present to judge against Picard.
