Arizona State Route 89

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

State Route 89 (SR 89) is the segment of old U.S. Highway 89 decommissioned between Ash Fork, junction Interstate 40 and its old junction with U.S. Highway 93 northwest of Wickenburg, Arizona. All of US 89 was decommissioned south of its current southern terminus with Interstate 40 in Flagstaff, Arizona after Interstates offered shorter and more direct routes than the old long-distance US 89 in central and southern Arizona. It is a largely north-south route; the largest city through which it now passes is Prescott, Arizona, where it meets Arizona State Highway 69 and the extremely scenic Arizona State Highway 89A.

The segment between Prescott and Congress, Arizona (junction State Route 71) is quite scenic.
