Ari Eldjárn

Ari Eldjárn (born in Reykjavík September 5th, 1981) is an Icelandic film-maker and scriptwriter.

Born in Reykjavík in 1981, he is the fourth son of renowned Icelandic writer Þórarinn Eldjárn and his wife, Unnur Ólafsdóttir. His grandfather, Dr. Kristján Eldjárn, was the third president of the Icelandic Republic and had left office the year before, having served for three terms.

Ari grew up in Reykjavík and England. After finishing mandatory education Ari attended Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, and graduated in 2001. In 2005 he was accepted into the London Film School where he attained a degree in 2006.

Ari started working on short films at an young age. In 2002 he made the short film Tindar, a mockumentary about a fictional 70's rock band, which received critical acclaim[citation needed]. He also directed music videos and currently works advertising.

In 2006 Ari was a part of the team of writers for the Icelandic State Television's annual New Year's Eve Comedy.
