Talk:Are we nearly there yet equation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not a mathematician... is this something that people in the math community talk about regularly? Otherwise it should be removed as having no notability. Sloverlord 22:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

It's hardly an equation of great importance, true --- but that's kind of the point. It is acknowledged that the study of when a child will first ask "Are we nearly there yet?" is not very serious, indeed a little humourous, but is an application of mathematical reasoning to an everyday occurrence. It is in that spirit that Prof. Barkley formulated and publicised the equation in the first place. Sullivan.t.j 23:48, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I have added further exposition on the nature of the equation as a simple mathematical model and the heuristic ideas underlying the various terms in the equation. Sullivan.t.j 00:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
