Arekere

Arekere is a residential area on Bannerghatta Road in South Bangalore. The origin of the name "Arekere" comes comes from a water reservoir which is in the area.

Are in Kannada means half.

Kere in Kannada means a water reservoir or pond.

The entire area has developed very fast since year 2000 due to large number of IT, BPO companies, and even hospitals like Apollo Hospitals and Wockhardt have come up nearby.IIM Bangalore is half a km from this area.

Some of the well developed residential areas in Arekere are, Arekere-Mico Layout which is a BDA layout and was developed in the late 70s, Pandurangnagar which is just adjacent to Mico layout. Some of the apartment complexes in Arekere are Mantri Paradise, Mantri Woodlands, Mantri Residency, Meenakshi Residency, Meenakshi Mangalam, Shantiniketan, Vijaya Bank Enclave. Schools in this area are BGSNPS, Mitra Academy etc. Bright Kids and some more play schools are there too.

There is a Mini Forest, Ganesh temple and a playground within Arekere-Mico Layout.
