Area code 801

The 801 area code covers the metropolitan Salt Lake City, Utah area, commonly referred to as the Wasatch Front. Some other cities included in this area code are Ogden, Bountiful, Provo, Kearns, Alta, Murray, Midvale, and Sandy, Utah.
Until September 1997, all of Utah was served by the 801 area code. At that time all of the counties outside of the Wasatch Front were assigned the 435 area code.
801 was supposed to divide again with 801 being Salt Lake County and a new area code of 385 being used for Utah, Davis, Weber and Morgan Counties. This has been put on hold.
