Area code 626
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Area code 626 is the telephone area code covering most of the San Gabriel Valley and nearby areas in the northeastern portion of Los Angeles County, California, including Arcadia, Monrovia, El Monte, most of Pasadena and West Covina. The area code was created in a split from 818 on June 14, 1997.
Originally, 626 was considered unlucky[citation needed] by some of the area's large Chinese American population because the sum of the numbers resulted in the number 14, considered to be one of the unluckiest numbers in Chinese culture. However, the continued prosperity of the region has dispelled that myth.[citation needed]
