Area code 600

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Area code 600 is a non-geographic Canadian area code, reserved for specialized telecommunications uses such as teletype, cellular, ISDN and mobile satellite communication services.

Exchanges in the 600 code are assigned according to a special set of guidelines. One purpose for which 600 numbers are used is caller-pays cellular.[citation needed]

These uses were originally designated with the area code 610 in 1962, and were reassigned to 600 in 1992 so that 610 could be assigned to Pennsylvania as an ordinary geographic area code.[citation needed]
