"Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken" is a song by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions later covered by Sandie Shaw in 1986. Shaw had made a comeback two years earlier thanks to Morrissey and Johnny Marr of The Smiths and having released a cover of their song "Hand In Glove" discussed making an album with their label, Rough Trade Records. However she fell pregnant and the album was forgotten about. Two years later she signed a deal with Polydor and released two singles with them (this being the first). It became a minor hit on the UK chart and an album with Polydor was discussed, but after a change in management and the feeling that the singles had not done well enough, the idea was once again called off. The B-side to this single was entitled "Steven (You Don't Eat Meat)" and had been written by Shaw about Steven Morrissey.
