Ardington

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ardington is a village and civil parish in the Vale of White Horse district in the English county of Oxfordshire (though formerly in Berkshire). It is about two miles east of Wantage and six miles west of Didcot. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 284. It is the location of Ardington House, the local manor house, which is open to the public in the Summer months.

Ardington, along with the neighbouring villages of Lockinge, East and West Hendred, are downland villages, stretching from the loam rich north to the chalk downlands to the south. The ancient path of the Ridgeway runs through the southern part of the parish. There are several racing stables in and around the village, most of which use the Downs for gallops.

Ardington Wick is a hamlet in the north of the parish, stretching to the main Great Western railway line between Didcot and Wantage.
