Ardfert Cathedral
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ardfert Cathedral founded in the 6th Century by St. Brendan the Navigator. The cathedral is located in County Kerry, Ireland.
The site has a number of medieval church ruins, the earliest building being from the 12th century, with additions made in the 15th century when a small transcept was added and battlements were constructed and an ogham stone. The south transept was extended in the 17th century when it was converted into a Protestant Church. Within the adjoining graveyard there are two other churches Temple Na Hoe dating from the 12th Century and Temple Na Griffin dating from the 15th Century.
Located in the village of Ardfert on the Tralee to Ballyheigue road, the site is now managed by the Office of Public Works.
