Archie purchased Kelsey's Bar ,during AITF before Archie Bunker's Place series. GoodDay 01:31, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Same series or spinoff?

What is the rationale for considering this show to be the same series as All In The Family? It has a different format and a largely different cast of characters. To my way of thinking, this is the same as saying AfterMASH is the same series as M*A*S*H or that Three's a Crowd is the same series as Three's Company. They're not the same. Archie Bunker's Place should be considered a spinoff of All In The Family - not a retooling of the same series. Applejuicefool 21:18, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it is a different show...Saying otherwise would be to say that all five Law & Order series are all the same show. The plots are also tremendously different, much due to content.
The fact remains, however, that some people and sources - including "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network TV Shows: 1946-Present" - consider All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place to be one and the same. The paragraph in the AITF's entry regarding its change/spinoff creation (whatever you consider it) starts, "During the 1979-1980 season the program grew even further away from its original format, as the action shifted to Archie's Bar." After going into detail about those changes, the last sentence reads "Coincident with these changes, in the fall of 1979, the name of the series was changed to Archie Bunker's Place. This is one possible source where this "Is it a spinoff or continuation of the original series" debate began (and apparently, still persists). I don't think the Law & Order example is relevant; those are franchised shows and not considered the same series, although Applejuicefool's examples are more valid.
