Archippus

Archippus (literally, "master of the horse"), St. Archippus, a Christian believer mentioned briefly in the New Testament epistles of Philemon and the Colossians.

In Paul's letter to Philemon (1.1), Archippus is named once alongside Philemon and Aphhia as a host of the church, and a "fellow soldier." In the epistle to the Colossians 4.17 (a work ascribed to Paul), the church is instructed to tell Archippus to "complete the task that you have received in the Lord." ("Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it." New King James Version). No other information is given in the New Testament.

He is believed to be the first Bishop of Colossae, Phyrgia, (now Turkey).

Tradition says he was one of the 70 disciples appointed by the Lord Jesus Christ in the (Luke 10:1). (Authorized King James Version of the Bible).

Feast Day for St. Archippus is March 20.
