Maurice Noël Léon Couve de Murville is the Roman Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Birmingham, England, United Kingdom. He was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France on June 27, 1929, and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton in the UK two days after his 28th birthday.
On January 22, 1982, at the age of 52 he was appointed Archbishop of Birmingham, and was ordained one month later.
On June 12, 1999 at the age of 70, he resigned as Archbishop largely due to a battle with cancer that appears to have been successful as he is still alive 6 years later. He is a Knight of Malta
He had a cousin, Maurice Couve de Murville, who was the Prime Minister of France.
